Faculty
Disclosure
Medical Media Communications is accredited by the Accreditation
Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to sponsor continuing
medical education for physicians.
As an accredited
sponsor of continuing medical education programs, Medical Media
Communications must ensure that its educational activities, whether
individually or jointly sponsored, are balanced, independent, objective,
scientifically rigorous, and free of commercial bias. Therefore,
we require that all faculty members comply with the ACCME Standards
for Commercial Support of Continuing Medical Education (copy attached).
Furthermore, each faculty member is required to disclose to activity
participants (i.e., the audience) any significant financial interest
or relationship he or she has with [1] the commercial supporters
of the educational activity and [2] the manufacturer(s) of any commercial
product(s) and/or provider(s) of commercial services that are discussed
during the educational presentation(s).
“Significant
financial interest” or “other relationship” can
include grants or research support, employee, consultant, officer,
trustee, stock or bondholder, member of scientific or advisory board,
member of speaker’s bureau, etc.
The intent of
disclosure is not to prevent a faculty member who has a significant
financial interest in or other relationship with a commercial organization
from making a presentation; rather, it is to provide audience members
with information so they can make their own judgments about the
presentations. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the audience
to determine whether the financial interests or relationships of
the faculty members have influenced the content of the presentations.
Medical Media
Communications will release disclosure information to the audience
before the presentations are given, in print form or otherwise.
Failure to disclose
significant financial interests or other relationships with commercial
organizations may preclude inclusion in continuing medical education
activities sponsored by Medical Media Communications.
